I have been blogging for almost a year now, and I’ve been thinking about what I would do if I had to start all over again. I already restarted once after a hacker got access to my website, but I’ve grown so much since then. I rebranded a couple times, and I started earning a profit from my blog and started an income report. I’ve helped so many other bloggers along the way, and in hopes that I help another, I decided to write about what I’d do if I were to create my blog all over again.
1. buy a host & domain
Though I had a blast while customizing my site on Wix with my blogger friend Soo, I would have had a much better start if I bought a hosting and domain from the beginning. As for domains, it is very important to buy it as soon as possible because you never know if it will be available ever again. You can read about how to start a blog with Bluehost hosting here, and use the domain checker below to make sure your domain is available!
2. create an editorial calendar
In my income report in December, I talked about how I created an editorial calendar. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have an editorial calendar and that I regret not starting it soon enough. Here’s a little sneak peak of my editorial calendar. I organized it by date, title, Sponsor/Affiliate, and opt-ins. The last two had to be included so that I made sure I put a disclaimer on the post.

3. don’t stress over your niche
I was so focused on my niche of writing and travel photography that I didn’t realize I had so many other interests such as blog and graphic design, creating lists, and creating informational posts. For the longest time, I told myself that I wouldn’t write any blog posts that a classic travel blogger rights, but when I tried, I realized that I actually liked writing lists. I enjoyed creating informational posts and sharing my tips to the world.
4. create bloglovin’
Bloglovin’ is probably one of the biggest sources I receive readers from, and one of the only platforms I use to find and read my favorite blogs. It is a very high-quality RSS feed where you can follow other blogs and bloggers, and once you’re registered, your blogposts automatically get uploaded. I get at least 500 reads each week from Bloglovin’ and probably read 30-40 blog posts each day with the platform. It is very easy to get started on the website and you can find my blog here.
I have a post on how to use Bloglovin’ and how to get more followers. Take a look at it here!
5. create a media kit
I created my media not so long ago, and I definitely recommend creating one – even if you just started blogging. It’s more about organizing your thoughts on your blog than presenting it to brands. While I was making mine, I got to organize my thoughts about my blog, my statistics, and learn more about my readers.
It’s been over a year since I started blogging, and my life has changed so much since. I am so happy and thankful for everyone who has supported my this past year, and I am excited about what my blog will bring in 2017. I wish the best luck to everyone in 2017!
